Sprint
A new mechanic to streamline exploration
Sprint designed to improve the player experience. This system directly addresses one of the recurring criticisms regarding progression: the slowness and repetitiveness of movement between fights.
How does Sprint work?
Now, when a player holds down the dodge roll button, their character performs their usual dodge roll… then automatically follows up with a quick run. This mechanic is available to all classes , with no time limit: as long as the button is held, the character continues to sprint.
A mechanic designed for exploration
The main purpose of sprinting is to facilitate movement outside of combat . Crossing an area or reaching an objective becomes much faster and more fluid. However, the mechanics have one important constraint: if the character is hit while sprinting, they fall to the ground. To avoid this, it is advisable to interrupt the sprint with an offensive skill as soon as an enemy appears, in order to engage in combat safely.
A solution for the leak too
Sprinting isn't just useful for movement; it also becomes a survival tool . In times of danger, holding the button allows for effective escape, as the initial roll protects the player and the sprint speed exceeds that of almost all monsters in the game. This makes retreat possible even in the most critical situations.
A deliberate change of pace
Jonathan Rogers points out that sprinting represents a profound change for Path of Exile 2. It speeds up the overall pace of the game for players who want it, without altering the visceral combat system that makes the series so distinctive. It's therefore an ideal compromise: the nervousness and intensity of the clashes remain intact, but the movements become more fluid and dynamic.
