Interlude: Doryani's Contingency

The third and final Interlude immerses the player in a thousand-year-old story. Doryani, Royal Thaumaturge of Vaal, once sealed a group of volunteers in a vast mountain crypt to survive the cataclysm. Thousands of years later, their descendants may still exist and hold the key to defeating the Beast. The ascent of the mountain will be perilous: bitter cold, formidable enemies, ice caverns, and the entrance to the mysterious crypt await the player.

Assist Doryani, Royal Thaumaturge of the Vaal once more with his plan to save his people from the Cataclysm. Doryani believes that ancient descendants of the Vaal may still live, sealed deep within the mountains, and may be key to defeating the Beast.

Interlude 3: Doryani's Contingency is a temporary side story that is included until the release of Act 5. The third interlude has 7 new areas and 4 new bosses.

The Glade

The Glade is the main town in Interlude 3 and has 4 NPCs by default:

Speak to The Hooded One, Doryani, Hilda and Delywn to learn more about Ancient Vaal Descendants and for information about the nearby area. Then take the exit to the Ashen Forest.

Ashen Forest

The Ashen Forest was once an Azmeri Hunting ground. Now, it's home to fungal zombies, swarming wasps, sabre spiders and more. Explore the area for an entrance to the Kriar Village.

Optionally, search for and interact with the Ancient Monument for an Uncut Skill Gem Level 14.

Kriar Village

The Kriar Village is a narrow linear zone, inhabited by bramble hulk, snakethroat shambler, elephant tortoise and more. Explore the area for Lythara, the Wayward Spear, a physical, fire, cold, lightning, and chaos themed boss.

While progressing, similar to the Hunting Grounds in Act 1: consider chasing the Azmeri wisp at the start of the zone into a rare to empower it for extra loot when defeated. Additionally, consider making any character upgrades now, before fighting Lythara, the Wayward Spear.

Lythara, the Wayward Spear is in part a damage check, defeat her quickly, because as the fight progresses she gets empowered by Azmeri wisps. Two wisps or more can pose a significant challenge for even the strongest characters. Note: this fight may be difficult, consider significantly increasing your damage beforehand.

After defeating Lythara, the Wayward Spear, consume the Gemcrust Skull to gain +40 to Maximum Spirit and an Uncut Spirit Gem Level 14. Then progress ahead to Glacial Tarn.

Glacial Tarn

The Glacial Tarn is located at the base of the mountain, the Kriar Peaks. Search the area for the entrance to the Howling Caves, defeat the Abominable Yeti inside and return to the Glacial Tarn, continuing your ascent.

Guarding the entrance to the Kriar Peaks is Rakkar, the Frozen Talon, a physical and cold themed boss. Defeat Rakkar, the Frozen Talon and progress ahead.

Howling Caves

The Howling Caves is an indoor icy cavern, inhabited by brine maiden, frost wraiths, hungry wolves and more. Search the zone for The Abominable Yeti, a physical and cold themed boss.

The Abominable Yeti is akin to the Mighty Silverfist from Act 3. Use timely dodge rolls to avoid taking lethal damage. After defeating the The Abominable Yeti, loot the Icy Tusks and speak to Hilda in town for 2 Weapon Set Passive Skill Points.

Kriar Peaks

The Kriar Peaks is a linear narrow zone with no immediate boss or quest objective. Continue your climb towards the top of the mountain, and take the platform to descend into the Etched Ravine.

While exploring the Kriar Peaks, you may encounter Elder Madox, peering off the mountainside into the distance. Speak to him for one free unique item. If playing a trade league and you're unsure what to select, consider searching for each item on the trade site, to learn its relative value.

Etched Ravine

The Etched Ravine is another linear zone that has been cut into the mountain by the Architect of Expansion. Search the zone for the entrance to The Cuachic Vault, guarded by Stormgore, the Guardian, a physical and lightning themed boss.

Stormgore, the Guardian is akin to Blackjaw, the Remnant from Act 3. Use Dodge Roll invincibility frames and careful positioning to avoid his slams and lightning spells.

After defeating Stormgore, progress forward and enter The Cuachic Vault.

The Cuachic Vault

The Cuachic Vault is home to the Ancient Vaal Descendants. However, with no contact with the outside world, they do not understand that Doryani aids you. Progress ahead and convey your message to Zolin, Blood Priest and Zelina, Blood Priestess.

Unsurprisingly, you and your message are seen as nonsense. Thus, since words do not work, defeat Zelina, Blood Priestess and Zolin, Blood Priest in battle. Zelina, Blood Priestess and Zolin, Blood Priest are physical and cold themed bosses, and in comparison to prior bosses, are relatively not challenging.

After defeating Zelina, Blood Priestess and Zolin, Blood Priest, summon and speak to Doryani to bring the Blood Priest and Priestess up to speed.

Afterwards, return to Act 4: Kingsmarch, speak to The Hooded One for 2 Weapon Set Passive Skill Points and Travel to Oriath.
