Runeforging

Remnants can contain Verisium, which is used in Runeforging to alter equipment in new ways. Runeforging an armour can convert some of its defence values to provide Runic Ward, a special type of defence that absorbs damage to protect you from death if your life falls below 1. Later on, Runeforging can be done on unique items, which can introduce more drastic changes such as upgrading an explicit modifier or increasing a weapon's base damage to be more effective in the endgame.
